Today yesterday consisted of watching some more Wonder Showzen, then seeing "Watchmen" on IMAX with angry_wolfCarl and moonwhispersBrian , then eating dinner at Long John Silver's in South S.F., and finally watching the series finale of Battlestar Galactica with Carl and grendelsmRudy, which I enjoyed the frak out of.

  • Today I slept in as late as I could, watched the latest Lost episode, napped, and finally went out and did laundry. Tonight I plan to watch "There Will Be Blood" as well as some eps of Wonder Showzen, which I bought myself on sale today when I went to Tanforan... been wanting them for quite awhile, so this makes me quite happy. I also got myself a rolling cart for laundry and groceries. All in all I did my part to help boost the economy today!

  • My boss at Calafia has taken to calling me Zorn. He said it's because he knows I'm a sci-fi loving guy, and therefore I am now Zorn, because it's a sci-fi sounding name. I asked him what I should call him, and he said Commander Cody. Anyway, I really like working for Charlie... I must buy his book Food 2.0 at some point.

  • Tomorrow will be extra geektastic as angry_wolfCarl and I will be meeting up for "Watchmen" in IMAX goodness at the Metreon (for reals this time), and then heading back to his place for the 2 hour season finale of BSG.

  • On a personal but vague note, I find it difficult to accept certain things in regards to a certain someone. I was half joking when I texted this person last night, but perhaps it was tinged with more than half of the bitterness I intended. In any case I think not communicating with this person for a little while might be for the best, at least until I can sort things out with my feelings.

It's been a week, so I guess I should update this thing...

Last night after work I got to hang out with angry_wolfCarl, moonwhispersBrian, and sausage_boyLloyd. Much laughter was had and beer, pizza, and donuts were consumed. We watched "Hardware Wars" (I can't believe I hadn't seen it before... hilarious!) and most of "A Knight's Tale" before calling it a night. Thanks guys for an awesome evening!

Watched "Mystery Men", The Guild webisodes, Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse, The Venture Bros., "How To Lose Friends & Alienate People", and "The Man with The Screaming Brain" this past week. Some of that was online, some from Netflix, and some was cable t.v. (thanks Carl!)

Work (both jobs) continues to go well. That's all I can say about that. I have tomorrow off, and I will most likely do laundry and possibly go see "Watchmen" on IMAX in the city with friends.

The Girl Scouts are selling their cookies at Town & Country Village, where my workplaces are. One asked if I wanted to buy some as I was walking by... I inquired if they were made with real Girl Scouts. No one said I'm original, but that response got some laughs from the girls. For the record I did not buy any...

And finally, a very happy birthday to the very awesome spdrwnAmy!

I am including links throughout the post to the respective Tweets as what I described happened for completeness' sake.

I left the house yesterday wearing my Autobot symbol hat, "Watchmen" t-shirt, and my Spider-Man club shirt over it. Got on BART, got off at Powel street, and walked to the Moscone Center South, whereupon I got myself into line. Soon after that I met up with rackstrawAl and met a family of three who were just as excited to be there as we were. All of us got interviewed for Wondercon. Eventually we got let in to get our badges and wait in line again to be let into the dealer's room. Al got separated from me, but I talked to the family I had met and they even took a few pictures which they promised to email to me at some point. Once we were let into the dealer's room I went straight to the celebrity area and met Erin Gray, Barry Jenner, and others. I decided to bite the bullet and get in the long line for DC swag. then generally walked around the dealer's hall until angry_wolfCarl got there. We got into the very long line to try to win "Watchmen" tickets, but we ended up not winning them. We left the con to head back to Carl's place and meet up with grendelsmRudy to watch the new BSG episode. Got home and pretty much called it a night..

Today I left the house with zackerysperdutoZack in tow around 9:30 AM, took BART to the city, and while on the way to get Zack registered met Felicia Day while she was in line to get her badge. We then hurried up to the room where they were having the "Watchmen" panel, I talked to eliteLouise, and when the show started I was simply amazed at the the first ten minutes or so of the movie that they ended up showing us... basically the first 13 pages of the graphic novel, including an awesome montage over the credits. After that we got our "Watchmen" buttons, tried to get in line to see Felicia Day and failed, and ate lunch at Jollibee's. After lunch I met Wendy & Richard Pini, which was an honor since I loved Elfquest so much. Ran into jasonwarlockWarlock a few times. Bought myself my annual geeky logo shot glass, Blue Sun this time, from the Stylin' Online booth. Later on I stood in line and got my Dr. Horrible DVD signed by Felicia Day, then Carl took a picture of she and I. Carl, Zack, and I went to the Metreon to wait in line to see 45 minutes of the new Pixar film "Up".. After retrieving our cell phones we all agreed that what they showed us was just kick ass and we couldn't wait to see the whole thing at the end of May. Also, "squirrel!" Taking BART back to San Bruno, we went to moonwhispersBrian and Zack's house to watch Commentary the Musical and the ELE application videos on my Dr. Horrible DVD. Now I am home... looking forward to more Wondercon tomorrow.

Here are pics from the con... )

After watching the first two episodes of Dollhouse on Hulu, I feel like Buffy, Angel, and Firefly were just warmups for the real thing: this.

At least if I had to stay home sick from work today I had something good to watch... and I also have "Choke" from Netflix waiting on top of my t.v. And speaking of t.v., another good ep of BSG last night. "How many dead chicks are out there?" Heh heh.

Got my work schedule from Calafia last night... let's just say my worries about not having enough hours are over. In fact, I may have to ask for less. I am really hoping they will do something about the fact that I'm scheduled next weekend, since I plan on attending Wondercon then.

Update 4:08 PM - "We're not going to Guam, are we?"

Just finished watching six episodes of Lost in a row... now I am all caught up! I even wore my numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42) t-shirt during part of the mini-marathon. This season is so good... I like that it isn't really flashbacks anymore... instead it's mostly taking place in the present (more or less) with time traveling instead. Very interesting twists and stuff. Old questions answered, new ones asked. Loving it!

    • Working a double shift today (like I did on Wednesday)... Calafia and Books Inc. back to back. That's fine with me... I could use the hours. Then tonight is BSG with the usual suspects. Woot!

    • I have watched "Towelhead", "Cashback", and "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist" in the past week via Netflix. All three were good, but "Towelhead" really stands out as just a fantastic film.

    • I used my day off yesterday to clean my room (including vacuuming), do two loads of laundry, and take out the trash. Go domestic me! I realised just now that I have lived at my new place for just over a month now... and I am feeling pretty good about that.

    • Finally, I have learned that the Jonathan Coulton 22 February 2008 concert DVD/CD set is coming very soon!
    brandeks: (Default)
Finished last minute paperwork for Calafia, in the system and everything, will be training this coming week, and the market goes live on the 23rd with me as a cashier. As for Books Inc., I might possibly pick up a few extra shifts at the Mountain View store this coming week as long as it doesn't interfere with my training at Calafia.

"Friday the 13th" was better than I expected. To quote myself from a comment in the previous post: It's like someone said "you know the last few Jason movies? how they've become parodies of the first few? let's start from scratch and take things seriously, but keep the humor when appropriate". Suspenseful, gory, and enough nudity to satisfy the average teen sneaking in because they aren't 17. So there's my review. And yes, I was first in line and got the best seat in the house (IMHO).

BSG... aw frak it. I'll let you know when it doesn't absolutely rule. Which is most likely going to be never.

I am so looking forward to Wondercon it's not even remotely funny.

Looks like I might possibly be getting internet by sharing with housemates.
    brandeks: (geek inside)
    I wasn't sure how they could top last week's episode of BSG, or at least stay consistently awesome. They frakking did. Oh, and who is that coming back in next weeks's episode? Only 6 more to go... {sigh}

When I got home from watching BSG I played some Ultimate Marvel Alliance on the ol' PS2. Actually finished one level I remember I couldn't beat 6 months ago, and now I'm moving on to a level that literally takes place in hell. Fun!

Looking forward to seeing "Fanboys" with angry_wolfCarl sometime this coming week. I've been wanting to see it for quite awhile (a few years or so), and it's finally been released. Let the Trek vs. Wars debate continue!

Alright... almost time to start work.
    brandeks: (south park eks)
    Things are looking up:

    • Got my tax refund this morning. Just in time too... my account was about to go negative again.

    • Got all of my games back this afternoon, (thanks to moonwhispersBrian)... including a game that wasn't even mine! Now I won't be as bored when at home.

    • Opened a Netflix account, which also helps against the boredom.

    • Got BSG to look forward to tonight with angry_wolfCarl and grendelsmRudy.

    • My room is all vacuumed, which pleases me more than it ought to.

    • Actually talked to one of my housemates. Startled another one, but what can you do?

    • Only a few more days until I start at Calafia.
    brandeks: (Default)
I have some time before I start work, so I figure I might as well post what's been happening lately:

I have been fairy lonely at my new place. Been watching a lot of DVDs and spending time at Tanforan, but that's already getting kind of old. I really need to get internet access and cable.

Still waiting to begin work at Calafia. I am looking forward to it, but I'm also nervous since it's a new job and I don't want to screw up my chance of staying employed there. I really need this job, and I was lucky to get it.

Finances are better now than the last few weeks. I actually ended up going negative in my bank account due to a combination of bad decisions and not keeping very good track of how much I spent. Now, however, I have two Books Inc. paychecks coming in February, plus whatever I get from Calafia, and my tax refund is on it's way to being directly deposited in the next few weeks (it took awhile to get them to accept it), so I can breathe a little... not to say I'm going to be spending wildly, but at least I'm not stressing so much anymore.

BSG just frakking rules. Last night's episode was so good! I'm only sad there's just 7 or so more episodes before it's over. At least there will be the t.v. movie The Plan and the new series Caprica to whet my appetite.

I have a few things I am really looking forward to in the next few months or so, such as the long awaited Jonathan Coulton concert DVD, Wondercon (Felicia Day will be there!), Watchmen, and Schaffer the Darklord & Stephen Lynch concerts in April and May respectively.
    brandeks: (Default)
As of right now I am without internet access. However, I figured out a way to post to LJ without having to create the post on my Centro... I write it in Semagic, copy the text to Palm desktop. HotSync, and then copy and post to the mobile LJ app on my phone! So this will be the first of those type of entries.

Today I talked to one of the head guys at Calafia, who said a week ago I should get back to him about now. He told me that he wants me in the market side of the restaurant and that I should come in on 9 February. I'm not sure, but I think I may have skipped the interview process and went straight to getting the job! So I will actually be able to afford to keep living where I am. Also, I eFiled my taxes tonight, so the refund will help as well.

So since the 16th I have gotten a new place to live, acquired a futon so I don't have to sleep on the floor anymore, watched two eps of BSG, got a new job, and did my taxes. Oh, and three words: President Barack Obama. Life is of teh good.

    my geekcase and moving stuff...

I used to use the bookcase in this pic for DVDs, but since they are all in binders now I decided to showcase my geektastic interests. Everything from Spidey to BSG to The Matrix in one place. Yes, that's my Jayne hat on top of the lightning ball. On the bottom are my mass markets... many are novelizations of movies.

Anyway, the room is really coming together thanks to the awesome efforts last night of Carl and Rudy. I can't thank them enough, nor Darcy for providing me with a futon. Today my back is hurting badly from the moving... I shudder to think what it would feel like if I was still sleeping on the floor. I also should thank Gwynne for packing some more of my stuff and having it ready to pick up. Thanks again you four!

So, what's been going on with me lately you might wonder? Well, for starters I am about to be without a home as of this Thursday. This has been depressing me and I suppose I've been in denial about having to move for the most part, but last night I really started to feel the pressure on me. I started scouring Craigslist, and long story short I am meeting with someone in San Mateo tomorrow afternoon. I work from 9AM - 1PM, then I will take Caltrain and a bus to the place on Lake street. I also managed to procure an interview with a company that pays over $17 an hour. The interview is at 5 PM on the same day... so I think I'll have to take a taxi and to hell with the cost. If I can score both the place and the job I'll have it made. If I can't find something very soon I may have to move back to Eureka. I don't have concrete plans up there either, but at least my money will last longer rent-wise, and my sisters are there, plus I know the area.

I was feeling all sad and depressed earlier this morning, and had laid back down on the couch to just rest a bit, when Selene and Biko both jumped up on me. Selene snuggled under the blanket while Biko lay on top of my chest. This made me feel better. It's like they knew I needed loves. I'll miss those two.

In good news, just one more week until we have a new president! And if I find a place that has cable I can watch BSG and Lost and Heroes and Smallville and... woot! Oh, and I got my deposit back with Sprint, so I don't have to pay my cell bill for the next 4 months or so!

And now, the anatomy of a Lego person:

    brandeks: (Default)
Thanks to a heads up from djinnethGwynne I was able to watch the mid-season finale of BSG online at SciFi.com just now.

    Holy frak it was awesome.

Did not see that coming, though I should have. I can't say anything else... though here's someone who can.
    brandeks: (Default)
For some reason the last few days' Tweets haven't posted, so I guess I should post something myself...

I took yesterday off because I was supposed to cover only three hours of someone's shift and I woke up with my neck hurting worse than it has for the last three days. I took some painkillers, which helped a bit, but most of the day I was in pain. djinnethGwynne also took the day off, and we did a few errands after brunch at Boston Market. We said our goodbyes in the early evening and I stayed at my place, websurfing and watching a bit of whatever was on the ol' T.V., plus watched this past Friday's episode of BSG. Got to sleep sometime after 2 AM with music playing softly from the T.V.

Today I've been taking it easy, though I've picked up my room a bit and am in the process of doing laundry. I have the fan I borrowed from the living room going (one of the housemates said it was okay) which helps me bear the heat, but I'm thinking of taking a cool shower. Not sure what I want to do tonight... I think I may hang out with Gwynnie if she'll have me.

Tomorrow is [livejournal.com profile] inked_books at the store, and we'll be discussing The Dark Knight Returns. Should be fun.
    brandeks: (south park eks)
I suppose I should post something in my LJ besides tweets, and at least explain some of the past five...

    • Last night was a birthday dinner celebration deal at Olive Garden with some of the usual suspects, including the birthday boy himself, davebydesignDave. The evening culminated with the watching of "Prince Caspian", a movie IMHO better than the one before it. It was really good to hang out with the five of you who were there.

    • It's taken a week, but the Iron Man t-shirt I ordered finally got to my coworker's house today. I still have to wait until Wednesday, but at least I know it's no longer up to UPS.

    • I had a yummy sushi dinner with djinnethGwynne earlier tonight before she dropped me off back in San Jose. Now I know why she keeps asking to go there with her. So good!

    • Lately I have been watching Sealab 2021 and Firefly episodes. The other night I rewatched "Cannibal! The Musical" and "The Big Lebowski". I just watched Lost and Battlestar Galactica. Awesome episodes, both. I was surprised to find out that the actor playing Felix Gaeta has a wonderful singing voice. Now let's see if I can find Smallville online.

Alone she sleeps in the shirt of man
With my three wishes clutched in her hand
The first that she be spared the pain
That comes from a dark and laughing rain
When she finds love may it always stay true
This I beg for the second wish I made too
    But wish no more
    My life you can take
To have her please just one day wake
    - Gaeta's Lament

Last night, after tasty sushi at Tenka, I had the pleasure of seeing "Speed Racer" with djinnethGwynne. I loved it... the best live action feel good cartoon ever. Brilliant use of color, and though you might think you'd get motion sickness it's really not that bad. Between this and "Iron Man" last week (which I've seen three times so far) this Summer is already shaping up to be one that kicks much ass. And it's only mid-May!

What else is happening in my world... well, I finally turned in the application to the theatre in San Mateo. Hopefully I'll get a call soon about that. I got myself the Barenaked Ladies children's CD at Target, but I forgot to bring it home with me. I read the lyrics though... should be good. I need to catch up on Lost, BSG, and Smallville... maybe I'll do that tonight if my friend from Eureka doesn't call back.

In other news, from now on my tweets from Twitter will be posted at the very end of each day (11:59 PM to be precise) thanks to something called LoudTwitter. As if my LJ wasn't boring enough, now ya'll can read about what I have for lunch each day! Ooh! Exciting!!

Yesterday, after dealing with a couple of pissy customers during an otherwise nice day at work, I got home and watched the new episode of Lost. Goddamn, that was a seriously great episode... I was literally on the edge of my seat for some scenes. It asked more questions than it answered, but believe it or not I like those kind of episodes. I know that eventually those questions will be answered, and it's fun to go along for the ride. So after that I found the new Smallville episode online and watched that, but it just completely paled in comparison. Today I watched "Wedding Crashers" on DVD, which while pretty good and funny, wasn't as good as it was hyped to be. I also read more Tigerheart, which keeps getting better and better... it could be a new classic book. I will be sure to make it a staff recommendation at work. I also found a replacement for Trillian called Digsby. Despite it's questionable name it is more functional than Trillian (Pro even) while remaining free of charge (unlike Trillian Pro). I like the fact that you can integrate Facebook and MySpace accounts as well as email accounts right on the buddy list. Anyway. tonight I have a new BSG episode to look forward to, and I'm sure I won't be let down as BSG has rarely if ever done so.

I haven't mentioned yet that I met with the Sequoia Station room guy on Wednesday and locked in the room for either a 19 May or 1 June move, depending on my money situation. As much as I appreciate my coworker and her boyfriend letting me stay here in their room, I look forward to a more stable and long term living situation that is also closer to my job and friends.

And finally, if you were one of those who were watching Firefly and was really getting into it when Fox decided to pull the plug, and think you might enjoy a webcomic about people like yourself, you would do well to check out Save Hiatus, drawn by a friend of mine and high ranking Browncoat extraordinaire lexigeekAdam Levermore-Rich . This is the guy whose design for last year's event Can't Stop The Serenity poster won and was consequently used all over the world. Start here... and enjoy. I know I did.

    Moving woes... )

Well, today is just beautiful weather-wise, and tonight there is more packing to do and episodes of Eli Stone and BSG to (hopefully) watch. I know I have a few options in case I can't find a place by Sunday. And hey, at least I can always get myself another caffeine infused candy bar if I wanted to. At least there's some light in this darkness.

A frakkin' good start to the season. So say we all.

The "Iron Man" footage was cool, too.
