  • Working six days a week now... my day off will be partially spent sleeping.

  • Watching the Futurama movies via Netflix... I think I am going to have to own all Futurama DVDs.

  • Ripping my CDs and loading them onto my MP3 player... I realized that a bunch of my favorites weren't even on my computer - that needed to be rectified!

  • Waiting for certain movies to come out: "Transformers 2" & "Harry Potter 6" to name a few. Of course certain other movies on DVD such as "Watchmen" and "Star Trek" are definitely on my must buy list.

  • Also waiting for the Can't Stop The Serenity/Dr. Horrible screening. Got some people to go... looking forward to it.

  • Also also waiting for the new single by "Weird Al" Yankovic which is coming out on 16 June. Three more days! Whatever You Like and the new song, Craigslist, will be on the new album that he's working on.

  • Trying very hard to not have caffeine. I gave it up about a month or so ago, and have slipped up a few times, but I am denying myself that particular addictive substance.

Palm Pre - (replaces Palm Centro) - I've been wanting this since I first heard about it earlier this year... it comes out tomorrow, but I can't afford one until my next tax return or stimulus check. Hell, I can't afford any of these until at least next year.

Zune HD - (replaces Creative Zen Sleek Photo) : I was going to get the Zune 2 at some point, but then I found this... all of my music, photos, and videos in one slick-looking gadget! Oh, and it has radio... take that iPod.

PSP Go (no replacement) : I'm not much of a gamer, but with all the time I spend on busses and waiting for them I think I'd appreciate a portable gaming system, though if I can have games on the Pre this would be a bit redundant.

I just realized that the last few posts were about stuff other than what is going on with me personally, so here we go...

First of all, my back has seriously been killing me the last 3 or 4 days. No matter how many pain pills I take it still hurts. I must have tweaked it pretty bad recently.

Still could be getting more hours at workplaces, but I am trying to not spend as much money as I'd like to. I'm getting better at closing the Calafia market IMHO, which is helping with co-worker relationships. The only real difficult thing is not constantly eating all the desserts we carry.

Yesterday was spent partly at Tanforan, where I read some graphic novels that had come out recently. After that I did a little bit of shopping at Target, but when I got home I realized that though I had just got some bread, I didn't have peanut butter. {Sigh} I waited for angry_wolfCarl to show up, and we watched some more episodes of Venture Bros., which is quickly turning into one of my new favorite shows. When that was over we were hungry and decided to eat at Melaka, a place up San Bruno Avenue (where Lyon's used to be) which was pretty good for being buffet. On my way home I stopped at three different mini-marts trying to get a tube of Werther's, to no avail, but I did purchase a Pepsi-Cola Throwback... which contains natural sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I had to try it, and it was good, but the caffeine kept me awake long enough to enjoy "Special" and "Timecrimes" (see my last post). The problem with Throwback is it's only out for a limited time, so I'm really looking forward to trying Pepsi Natural. Anyway, finally I went to sleep.

Woke up and tried for awhile in vain to watch the latest ep of Lost, cleverly entitled Some Like It Hoth, and which I finally saw and enjoyed quite alot. Now I'm just relaxing for a bit before I get ready to go to work at the bookstore later tonight.

Oh, and the new Harry Potter 6 trailer is full of win! Also, tickets are now available for the midnight showings of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" on Thursday night/Friday morning 30 April/1 May. I'll be seeing it at Tanforan (of course)... who's with me?

  • Today I slept in as late as I could, watched the latest Lost episode, napped, and finally went out and did laundry. Tonight I plan to watch "There Will Be Blood" as well as some eps of Wonder Showzen, which I bought myself on sale today when I went to Tanforan... been wanting them for quite awhile, so this makes me quite happy. I also got myself a rolling cart for laundry and groceries. All in all I did my part to help boost the economy today!

  • My boss at Calafia has taken to calling me Zorn. He said it's because he knows I'm a sci-fi loving guy, and therefore I am now Zorn, because it's a sci-fi sounding name. I asked him what I should call him, and he said Commander Cody. Anyway, I really like working for Charlie... I must buy his book Food 2.0 at some point.

  • Tomorrow will be extra geektastic as angry_wolfCarl and I will be meeting up for "Watchmen" in IMAX goodness at the Metreon (for reals this time), and then heading back to his place for the 2 hour season finale of BSG.

  • On a personal but vague note, I find it difficult to accept certain things in regards to a certain someone. I was half joking when I texted this person last night, but perhaps it was tinged with more than half of the bitterness I intended. In any case I think not communicating with this person for a little while might be for the best, at least until I can sort things out with my feelings.
  • got it...

    got it...

So that little trip to the emergency room is going to cost me $1131.00... this is exactly why I don't go to the doctor. I'm still a bit sick, and now I owe a fuckton of money as well. I don't know how much will be covered if I qualify for a financial assistance program I have to jump through hoops for, but I really can't afford this. Next time I'll just not go... what's the point? Speaking of owing money, I found out yesterday that I only owe another $176.12 to the county and then I'm done and they'll stop garnishing my wages. Finally!

Tomorrow is djinnethGwynne's surgery, and of course I'm worried for her. I really want everything to go smoothly and when all is said and done she'll be able to walk like she should. If I was a praying kind of man I would do so. I'm going to do what I can to help her in the coming months... it's the least I can do.

I've been watching Justice League on DVD thanks to nerveagntEric. Damn good cartoon. Still watching Oz and X-Files. Also watched the season premiers of Heroes (sorry for not waiting Gwynnie...) and Smallville yesterday online. I've been reading the fourth City of Ember book and I started reading the Dexter series.

I'm trying not to think about the 2 disc Iron Man exclusive deal that Target will be selling, because I have to wait for six more days and I am impatient as hell. Needless to say I will be getting up early that day... I'm also trying not to think about the Zune 120 that just came out. I have to wait until next year's tax return for that.

And finally, though I've already said what I needed to say in my last post about the subject, I am including an excerpt from a February 2008 post by a former employee who shall remain anonymous:

To the Creepy Company Owner: Are saturday nights at the ****** household really so boring you watch the live store security cameras to see if the employees are standing around and then phone the store to tell them to look busy? You’re like a second rate perv in some bad Sharon Stone movie from the mid 90’s but without the wit or charm of Alec Baldwin. I know running your own company is Serious Business but bookstores are not brothels and even tho’ you pay us like dime store whores, most customers don’t want us following them around like Hebronite Slaves. I hope you’re disemboweled by a mob of angry moms at an after school Sandra Boynton booksigning.

Couldn't have said it better myself...

    • I turned in an app to a toy store that is opening in the same mall where i work now. It looks very promising... fingers crossed.

    • Yesterday was Inked Books. We were going to talk about Kingdom Come, which I had re-read the day before. Not a single person showed up. {sigh}

    • I had a really good talk with Gwynne last night... well, she did most of the talking, but I needed to listen anyway.

    • I will be getting off of work at 3 tomorrow (managed to trade shifts) and heading straight down to the San Mateo County Fair to wait for "Weird Al" in concert. Can't wait!

    • On 30 September I will get up early and head to Target and pay what they ask for the 2 disc Iron Man DVD with much happiness in my heart.

Thanks to the combined efforts of my coworkers sjgrrrlHeather and flowermistressColleen, I am currently wearing the above t-shirt. I ordered it here. Yes, this is the package that it took UPS forever to deliver.

I totally want to go see "Iron Man" again now.
    brandeks: (geek inside)
Today was a very geektastic day:
    • I started off talking to a former coworker of mine, spider_goldM.P., about upcoming comic related movies and generally geeking out

    • I got dressed, wearing my "this is my secret identity" t-shirt with my Spider-Man club shirt over it, plus my Autobot symbol hat

    • After watching a trailer for "The Incredible Hulk" (among others) I saw "Superhero Movie" with djinnethGwynne, and it was actually much funnier than I thought it would be. Seriously... the audience was laughing pretty hard throughout the movie and even applauded at the end

    • From there Gwynne drove me to 7-11 so I could get an Iron Man head Slurpee cup filled with tastiness

    • Then it was off to Lee's so I could get my comics and geek out more with another former co-worker, thehulkisnotredAndrew

    • Finally I got home, and after reading the comics I bought, I watched an episode of Smallville

    • If that's not enough there's a couple of Battlestar Galactica specials on SciFi tonight that I plan on watching
    brandeks: (birthday)
So my birthday started off kinda rocky. I won't go into details, but I could tell it wasn't going to be a good day. However, I did get a ride to work from djinnethGwynne, which was nice. My first two sales were good... sold the RSGs on them. A little later in the day I ended up having to deal with an urinary "accident" made by a little girl on one of our products and getting the area between my pinky and ring fingers sliced into. To top it off I was going to end the day with a GPS sale but the woman who was buying it for her son realized that if he opened it and he didn't want it she'd have to pay a 10% restocking fee if she returned it, so I lost the sale.

I clocked out immediately after that transaction. I only had five minutes left anyway. Besides, the guys kept saying I shouldn't have had to work on my birthday anyway. Unt.

Soon after I clocked out Gwynnie walked around the corner from the rest of the mall. Turned out she'd been shopping at my other job and had bought me The Macmillan Illustrated Almanac For Kids, a book I loved when I was a kid and had ordered in recently. This is the book that taught me about Boonville and it's strange language among many other things. She told me that we had reservations for 8 PM at Fleming's, which had opened recently at the mall and which I had never been to. To pass the time we drove to Fry's where Gwynne got me the 2nd season of Buffy on DVD, thus completing my collection and thereby allowing me to return my co-worker's set tomorrow. BTW, there's a really good deal going on with certain DVDs, including the LOTR and Pan's Labyrinth ones: they're only 10 bucks each and come with movie cash good for up to $10.50 for "The Golden Compass". So if you were planning on seeing that movie anyway it's like you get the DVDs for free! Anyway, we got to Fleming's and I was treated to one of the nicest (if not THE nicest) meals in my life. I had a Brandy Alexander and carpaccio, plus two steaks with blue cheese on one and some kind of crab topping on the other. Also, roasted garlic mashed potatoes. And I have leftovers for my lunch today! Woot!

Well, gotta head into work now.
    brandeks: (Default)
    Last night consisted of shopping for groceries, throwing out a bunch of old food due to the moth problem (motherfuckers), the eating of tasty sloppy Joes, and the watching of "Zathura" (a better movie than I had thought it would be)... all with the lovely company of my sweet djinnethGwynne. During the day I accompanied my neighbor while she went shopping, and she ended up giving me her old Creative Zen Sleek Photo MP3 player which she can't use because it's not compatible with Vista. She's so nice to me! I just have to wait for the charger/sync cable to arrive in the mail and I will be able to listen to pretty much everything in my music folder on my computer while out and about. This will definitely work until tax return season when I get my 80 gig Zune. Anyway, at some point tonight Gwynnie and I will settle in and watch the new Bionic Woman. I think I watch something pretty much every night just to take my mind off the fact that it's a week between Heroes episodes. {sigh}

Me in front of the Kwik-E-Mart in Mountain View, CA

So I finally got a chance to check out the Kwik-E-Mart in Mountain View when my next door neighbor Kathy asked if I wanted to go to Starbucks today. I half-jokingly counter offered going to Kwik-E-Mart instead, and she said that would be fine since there's a Starbucks near there anyway. I got a Squishee in a collector's cup (Blue Woo Hoo! Vanilla of course) and a couple cans of Buzz Cola. I didn't buy any forbidden donuts though, plus I forgot to get a copy of Radioactive Man #711. Apu Habib denied us the free Squishee I had a coupon for due to getting the collector's cups (despite being told by another employee it was okay), and they were out of Krusty-O's, but it didn't matter... we had our fun and so we headed back to Redwood City.

More pics under the cut... )

The new They Might Be Giants CD, The Else, is out in stores today. I have a copy on hold for me at B&N. Guess what I'll be listening to at work all day today?

The new Harry Potter movie comes out tomorrow. I plan on seeing it tomorrow night after work. Of course I'll be wearing my OotP hat I got for Eksmas a few years ago.

Already pre-ordered the new Harry Potter book... midnight madness here we come!

    Woot!

    • I have become fairly addicted to 5. Sorry, you have to follow the link to find out what 5 is.

    • I had a brief visit with what will be my new computer a few nights ago. The hard drive that was in it was being all wonky, so siestrionMike took the computer back to his place to switch it for a new drive. I hope to get it back for good sometime this week.

    • Beware the triclaw, djinnethGwynnie!

    • So I am 34 years old and had fish sticks for dinner. What's your point?

    • Tonight Gwynne and I watched South Park, Jake 2.0, and Futurama episodes. All were good.

    • Free Hat!
