Katie Andrews from No Ordinary Family, because she's just as much of a geek as I am, so conversation wouldn't be a problem, plus she's really cute and funny.

I just read through every entry I posted during 2003 and realized that I missed writing in this damned thing. Not a whole lot has changed since the last time I posted (which was in October 2010), but let's see...

I am no longer working in the front of the store ringing up customers. This has been a nice change, though it hasn't completely erased my job stress, but I prefer the new stress to the old. Anyway, what I'm doing now is packing the orders for drive-thru and sometimes ringing up, but for some reason ringing up in drive-thru isn't nearly as bad as the front was. And of course I'm frying fish etc. on Sundays.

I've been keeping up on my t.v. shows using a combination of live broadcast, DVR, Hulu, and Netflix streaming (which is a lot easier to use with my PS3 working again!) and I am therefore never without entertainment, however I find that hanging out with friends such as angry_wolfCarl and moonwhispersBrian is just as, if not more, fun. As for movies, there are too many to name all the ones I want to see in the coming months, but most of them are from Marvel Studios, and include mutants, a Norse God, and a super-soldier from the 1940's.

Speaking of the PS3, I currently own Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, Tron: Evolution, and Gran Tursimo 5 Prologue, and I'm borrowing Transformers War For Cybertron. I plan to purchase Batman Arkham Asylum (and Batman Arkham City for that matter), Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and SSX Deadly Descents at some point in the future, though I will most likely make myself wait until I finish the games I already have first.

In a few weeks I am very much looking forward to attending WonderCon... I already have my ticket. Not much is known about programming (have to wait until Monday for more info) but WonderCon is always a blast for me. I will try to post to Facebook from the con as I get pics with celebrities or whatever.

Okay... I have to be up fairly early for work so I'll end this here and really try to post more often in the future.

So first of all, I finally got myself a PS3! The guy I am renting from (Bobby) is selling me his, which was supposed to be backwards compatible (and isn't), and I will be paying him $50 a month for the next 4 months. I am excited because now I can stream Netflix to my T.V., plus I'll be able to play Transformers War for Cybertron, Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, and Batman Arkham Asylum. I'm not much of a gamer (compared to my friends) but those three games I would play.

I had a fairly relaxing day off yesterday. I cleaned up my room a bit, did laundry, and ripped a bunch of CDs to my new computer's hard drive (I had transferred all the data from my old computer to the new one earlier this week). I got to meet Bobby's mom, who I will be paying rent to once he moves away. Unfortunately I hadn't showered or shaved yet so I hope I didn't make too bad of a first impression.

Eventually, angry_wolfCarl came over and we ordered a pizza (which took an hour to arrive), then settled in to watch the Caprica episodes we hadn't seen yet. Later moonwhispersBrian came over and the three of us talked for awhile. It was nice having friends over, and I realized that I need to try and get away from Mountain View every once in awhile and be social. Anyway, while we were talking a strange thing happened with my vision. It started out small but it got worse... these floating lines of shimmering color in my left field of vision. They went away after awhile, but it was disconcerting. I tried showing the guys a couple of videos (which I'll embed below) and for some reason they weren't buffering correctly... in fact, even as I type this I've had internet issues, mostly trying to download & install the new release of Skype. Eventually Carl & Brian left and I watched Smallville and a few eps of Attack of the Show before heading to bed.

Below are the two videos I was trying to show the guys. )

Not much has happened since my last post...

  • I have been working six days a week. Getting close to 40 hours, which is nice, but I also miss having two days off a week.

  • Got my room pretty much the way I want it (although I could use a mini-fridge in here).

  • Finally got my hair cut... long overdue, I gotta say.

  • Not willing to wait until I transfer the data from my old computer to this one, I have taken to ripping my CDs a few at a time and I usually fall asleep to one playlist or another.

  • I've been going back and forth from enjoying being alone when I'm not working to wanting to be social.

  • Watched the following DVDs recently: "Greenberg", "Rashomon", "A Few Dollars More", "Batman - Under The Red Hood", and "The Experiment".

  • The DVR is now set to record the following shows: The Big Bang Theory, Shit My Dad Says, The Venture Bros., Caprica, Attack of the Show, No Ordinary Family, and Smallville.

Yesterday, despite the guy in San Bruno not answering my call, I went down there with the hope that I could get a hold of him and see the room he had for rent. After stopping by moonwhispersBrian's place for a bit I headed over to the corner of Montgomery and Scott... but the guy never answered his phone. Ok... waste of my time. In any case I had plans to meet up with angry_wolfCarl to see "Shutter Island". This we did... except before the movie ended the projector's light and sound cut out and when they came back on we realized we'd missed some of the movie and decided to get our money back and leave. From there we headed to San Mateo, near where I used to live with O.J. Simpson's brother and saw a room there... whereupon I gave the guy a check and got the key! Now all I have to do is pack my stuff and get it over to the new place... Anyway, CJ and I got back to my current home and watched Caprica and Lost, both of which were probably the best eps of their respective seasons, and then we parted ways. Oh, and MC Frontalot emailed me asking that I be his Street Team Coordinator for his upcoming tour, to which I agreed. Today I am not feeling well, and I have called in sick
brandeks: (Default)
I have been emailing people via Craigslist ads regarding rooms for rent. I've looked at a few but I am apparently not getting one in Palo Alto that would have been perfect, however I am still looking. In fact, I have an appointment tomorrow in Burlingame to look at a room. I am working five days a week at Calafia, which is nice... I could use the extra hours. Meanwhile, I have been watching the following either live, streaming, or on DVD: Caprica, Lost (awesome start to this last season!), Spartacus: Blood & Sand, The Big Bang Theory (halfway through season 3), & Heroes (season finale next Monday). I am very much looking forward to a free screening of "Serenity" at Google on the 11th and the MC Frontalot concert on the 15th.
brandeks: (Default)
Not a whole lot to say... well...

Still working at Calafia, getting more hours there than before but not enough to live on. Keeping my eyes out for an additional job. I've saved a ton of money over Eksmas and since, but I need more income on a monthly basis before I move into my own place again.

I've been playing Batman: Arkham Asylum on moonwhispersBrian's PS3 and I've been loving it. Have watched some movies with angry_wolfCarl recently that include "Book of Eli" (liked it) and "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (loved it). Looking forward to the MC Frontalot concert on 15 February and Wondercon 2010 at the beginning of April, not to mention the returns of Lost, V, and the premier of Caprica. Also, I've decided that I need to get out more with friends and DO stuff. I need more of a life than what I've got going on now. For instance, I really liked a recent dinner at spideyjKanane's house, where I met some funny and cool people plus learned of the awesomeness that is The Big Bang Theory. I have enjoyed my Wednesday night comic book store geekout sessions with a friend/former coworker and the regular customers I know from having worked there. I have not, however, been enjoying the rain and cold as walking in or waiting for the bus in said elements are of teh suck. I did like what I saw yesterday after the rain:

brandeks: (Default)
So I talked to Charlie Ayers on Friday, and have become re-employed at Calafia. I will be doing odds and ends, helping out where needed, at my last rate of pay. I did indeed have my interview at Macy's also on Friday, and apparently the young woman who interviewed me liked me enough that she had me interview with someone else today, and... I fill out paperwork tomorrow afternoon! Yes, I got two jobs within a few days of each other. I am quite happy with this. As far as a place to sleep, I talked with some InnVision staff on Friday at Charlie's behest, but then after staying a few days at Brian's I am (at least for now) staying with Carl and his family. I am going to keep looking for something more permanent, but at least I am off the streets.

Oh, and last night it was great to hang out with friends, eat a super tasty dinner and dessert, and play probably my favorite game Apples to Apples. Today I got to watch Stargate Universe and later tonight I will watch Heroes. I will try hard not to think about the fact that "Star Trek" is being released on DVD tomorrow and that the Target version has a model of the Enterprise that comes with it.

In the last seven weeks I have become homeless... )

Things begin to look up a bit... )
brandeks: (south park eks)
  • Applying for a job with a security company (with angry_wolfCarl's help). The pay is great, and it gets me out of retail.

  • Wasn't feeling well the past two days... allergies acted up real badly, was sneezing up a storm earlier today.

  • Checked out the Lords of the Samurai exhibit at the Asian Art Museum with Carl and davebydesignDave. Very cool to see what they had to show... I really liked the katanas. Later that night I watched a William Shatner double feature that consisted of his Comedy Central roast (which I laughed my ass off at) and "Incubus", a movie with all of the dialog in Esperanto (and which I am still not sure about).

  • Watched "Extract" and "9". Both were good, but not as awesome as some of the earlier summer movies I saw this year. Still worth a viewing IMHO

  • Finished every episode of True Blood except the one that ends the season this coming Sunday. Also got caught up on Dexter, so I'm ready for season 4. Gotta love HBO and Showtime!

Here is a video (taken with my Centro) of djinnethGwynne's cat Biko drinking from the garden hose:

Still waiting to hear back from certain employers. Getting more and more nervous... it's almost the end of the month and I have virtually no money... at least not enough for rent. The anxiety is tearing me up inside. Every day my stomach is in knots. There are times when I just want to break down and give up completely, but I come back from it. It's been nice hanging out with djinnethGwynne and angry_wolfCarl recently... they've been very helpful in helping me not feel so lonely and depressed as I otherwise might feel. Thank you both! The only other thing of note is that yesterday my back seized up while i was walking and I felt a jolt of pain. It's better now, but damn that hurt.

I watched The Mighty Boosh, which the (fairly) infamous Old Gregg/Love Games episode is from. Pretty funny, but it seemed like it got better with each episode. Or at least more bizarre. Stargate Atlantis continues to be totally awesome, and with the 4th season comes many changes... looks to be like an interesting season. Movies I have recently seen include "District 9", which rocked, and "Inglourious Basterds" which I have to say is Quentin Tarantino's best film in many ways. I loved "Pulp Fiction" and the rest, but this one really felt epic and just plain brilliant. I think it could win an Oscar or three. Go see it! As for the rest of the year, I'm looking forward to "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus", "Avatar", "Zombieland", and "9". Oh, and Carl introduced me to the comedy of the funny and fluffy Gabriel Iglesias. A couple of music videos I'd like to share... first, the new song by "Weird Al" Yankovic called Ringtone. Second is Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? by the cast of The Guild, which includes the lovely Felicia Day (whom I met at Wondercon earlier this year). If you're a World of Warcraft player (and I know there are a few of you out there) you should check this out.

I just realized that the last few posts were about stuff other than what is going on with me personally, so here we go...

First of all, my back has seriously been killing me the last 3 or 4 days. No matter how many pain pills I take it still hurts. I must have tweaked it pretty bad recently.

Still could be getting more hours at workplaces, but I am trying to not spend as much money as I'd like to. I'm getting better at closing the Calafia market IMHO, which is helping with co-worker relationships. The only real difficult thing is not constantly eating all the desserts we carry.

Yesterday was spent partly at Tanforan, where I read some graphic novels that had come out recently. After that I did a little bit of shopping at Target, but when I got home I realized that though I had just got some bread, I didn't have peanut butter. {Sigh} I waited for angry_wolfCarl to show up, and we watched some more episodes of Venture Bros., which is quickly turning into one of my new favorite shows. When that was over we were hungry and decided to eat at Melaka, a place up San Bruno Avenue (where Lyon's used to be) which was pretty good for being buffet. On my way home I stopped at three different mini-marts trying to get a tube of Werther's, to no avail, but I did purchase a Pepsi-Cola Throwback... which contains natural sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I had to try it, and it was good, but the caffeine kept me awake long enough to enjoy "Special" and "Timecrimes" (see my last post). The problem with Throwback is it's only out for a limited time, so I'm really looking forward to trying Pepsi Natural. Anyway, finally I went to sleep.

Woke up and tried for awhile in vain to watch the latest ep of Lost, cleverly entitled Some Like It Hoth, and which I finally saw and enjoyed quite alot. Now I'm just relaxing for a bit before I get ready to go to work at the bookstore later tonight.

Oh, and the new Harry Potter 6 trailer is full of win! Also, tickets are now available for the midnight showings of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" on Thursday night/Friday morning 30 April/1 May. I'll be seeing it at Tanforan (of course)... who's with me?
brandeks: (Default)
So what's been going on since i last posted...

Media part... )

Finances part... )

Bus riding part... )
brandeks: (Heroes)
I have today off, as I did yesterday, and was able to watch the latest Heroes episode. Even if Heroes hasn't been as good as it was in the first season (so people say) this episode seemed to be a huge exception to that... it was perfect. Same with the latest Dollhouse episode. The five episodes before it were just the warm-up for the good stuff. In other media news, I finally watched "Kung Fu Panda", and I have to say I seriously underestimated how good it was. Loved it. Same with "No Country For Old Men". I know it seems like I like everything I see, but that's not always the case... I just happen to be lucky enough to watch things that I like. Maybe it's partly that I don't over analyze what I watch and instead just allow myself to enjoy it. I also recently saw "Crash", which I'm not sure I liked as much as everything else, but at least it had nudity and car crashes.

Money is a little tight, but I think I will be able to pay rent and still be able to eat. One of my jobs cut a day from my schedule (which was very late being put up by the way), so I'm a little worried, but I was also told that it was temporary. I sure hope so... it would suck if I was working two jobs and still couldn't afford rent and food.

I have found that I enjoy doing laundry and cleaning my room (to an extent). Once it's all done, and I can look around and know that everything is clean and put away where it's supposed to go, I just feel better. I need to get a few things still for the room... for instance I have a mattress coming to me if I can arrange to pick it up. I appreciate the futon I was given, but I wake up with a stiff neck because of the way I have to sleep on it. I also need a computer desk and chair, plus a bookcase. I should really put some stuff up on the walls too.

Update 2:43 PM - So I just had to add here that "There Will Be Blood" is seriously a great movie. I regret not having seen it sooner. "I drink your milkshake" indeed!
brandeks: (Default)
Today yesterday consisted of watching some more Wonder Showzen, then seeing "Watchmen" on IMAX with angry_wolfCarl and moonwhispersBrian , then eating dinner at Long John Silver's in South S.F., and finally watching the series finale of Battlestar Galactica with Carl and grendelsmRudy, which I enjoyed the frak out of.
brandeks: (south park eks)
  • Today I slept in as late as I could, watched the latest Lost episode, napped, and finally went out and did laundry. Tonight I plan to watch "There Will Be Blood" as well as some eps of Wonder Showzen, which I bought myself on sale today when I went to Tanforan... been wanting them for quite awhile, so this makes me quite happy. I also got myself a rolling cart for laundry and groceries. All in all I did my part to help boost the economy today!

  • My boss at Calafia has taken to calling me Zorn. He said it's because he knows I'm a sci-fi loving guy, and therefore I am now Zorn, because it's a sci-fi sounding name. I asked him what I should call him, and he said Commander Cody. Anyway, I really like working for Charlie... I must buy his book Food 2.0 at some point.

  • Tomorrow will be extra geektastic as angry_wolfCarl and I will be meeting up for "Watchmen" in IMAX goodness at the Metreon (for reals this time), and then heading back to his place for the 2 hour season finale of BSG.

  • On a personal but vague note, I find it difficult to accept certain things in regards to a certain someone. I was half joking when I texted this person last night, but perhaps it was tinged with more than half of the bitterness I intended. In any case I think not communicating with this person for a little while might be for the best, at least until I can sort things out with my feelings.
  • brandeks: (Default)
It's been a week, so I guess I should update this thing...

Last night after work I got to hang out with angry_wolfCarl, moonwhispersBrian, and sausage_boyLloyd. Much laughter was had and beer, pizza, and donuts were consumed. We watched "Hardware Wars" (I can't believe I hadn't seen it before... hilarious!) and most of "A Knight's Tale" before calling it a night. Thanks guys for an awesome evening!

Watched "Mystery Men", The Guild webisodes, Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse, The Venture Bros., "How To Lose Friends & Alienate People", and "The Man with The Screaming Brain" this past week. Some of that was online, some from Netflix, and some was cable t.v. (thanks Carl!)

Work (both jobs) continues to go well. That's all I can say about that. I have tomorrow off, and I will most likely do laundry and possibly go see "Watchmen" on IMAX in the city with friends.

The Girl Scouts are selling their cookies at Town & Country Village, where my workplaces are. One asked if I wanted to buy some as I was walking by... I inquired if they were made with real Girl Scouts. No one said I'm original, but that response got some laughs from the girls. For the record I did not buy any...

And finally, a very happy birthday to the very awesome spdrwnAmy!
    brandeks: (cons)
Got up yesterday on the leisurely side, got myself to the Tanforan food court, and had brunch with angry_wolfCarl. We then took BART to the con, walked around the dealer's room for awhile, and while there I met Greg Horn and got my picture taken with him (see below). Eventually Carl and I went our separate ways... I wanted to attend the BtVS OMWF singalong dealio and he didn't. After first watching the first episode of Harper's Island (it was in the same room) I enjoyed the Buffy musical episode with jasonwarlockWarlock who had found me there. After that the con was pretty much closed down, so Carl and I started to leave when I saw Ray Park trying to get some stuff into his vehicle. I went over and met him, shaking hands with him twice... very awesome! Carl and I then had some pizza, went by the Apple store, and then headed back to San Bruno where we went our separate ways for the day. I watched the rest of The Guild season 1 and "City of Ember" then let sleep take me.

Today so far I have cleaned up my room a bit, got laundry ready, and wrote this post. I am planning on doing the laundry and watching the first disc of the first season of Spaced and generally relaxing as I go back to work tomorrow.

    Greg Horn and I... )

Update 2:30 PM - Here are the pics taken with the family of three mentioned in the previous post... )
    brandeks: (joss)
After watching the first two episodes of Dollhouse on Hulu, I feel like Buffy, Angel, and Firefly were just warmups for the real thing: this.

At least if I had to stay home sick from work today I had something good to watch... and I also have "Choke" from Netflix waiting on top of my t.v. And speaking of t.v., another good ep of BSG last night. "How many dead chicks are out there?" Heh heh.

Got my work schedule from Calafia last night... let's just say my worries about not having enough hours are over. In fact, I may have to ask for less. I am really hoping they will do something about the fact that I'm scheduled next weekend, since I plan on attending Wondercon then.

Update 4:08 PM - "We're not going to Guam, are we?"

Just finished watching six episodes of Lost in a row... now I am all caught up! I even wore my numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42) t-shirt during part of the mini-marathon. This season is so good... I like that it isn't really flashbacks anymore... instead it's mostly taking place in the present (more or less) with time traveling instead. Very interesting twists and stuff. Old questions answered, new ones asked. Loving it!
    brandeks: (Default)
So, what's been going on with me lately you might wonder? Well, for starters I am about to be without a home as of this Thursday. This has been depressing me and I suppose I've been in denial about having to move for the most part, but last night I really started to feel the pressure on me. I started scouring Craigslist, and long story short I am meeting with someone in San Mateo tomorrow afternoon. I work from 9AM - 1PM, then I will take Caltrain and a bus to the place on Lake street. I also managed to procure an interview with a company that pays over $17 an hour. The interview is at 5 PM on the same day... so I think I'll have to take a taxi and to hell with the cost. If I can score both the place and the job I'll have it made. If I can't find something very soon I may have to move back to Eureka. I don't have concrete plans up there either, but at least my money will last longer rent-wise, and my sisters are there, plus I know the area.

I was feeling all sad and depressed earlier this morning, and had laid back down on the couch to just rest a bit, when Selene and Biko both jumped up on me. Selene snuggled under the blanket while Biko lay on top of my chest. This made me feel better. It's like they knew I needed loves. I'll miss those two.

In good news, just one more week until we have a new president! And if I find a place that has cable I can watch BSG and Lost and Heroes and Smallville and... woot! Oh, and I got my deposit back with Sprint, so I don't have to pay my cell bill for the next 4 months or so!

And now, the anatomy of a Lego person:
