Having lost my jobs I wasn't able to pay rent this month. Since the first I have been evading my landlord, assuming that if he knew I had no job and no money for rent that he'd kick me out immediately. Recently, when in my room in the dark, he knocked on my door... and I pretended I wasn't in my room. He left a note saying I should call, but I didn't. I felt badly about all this, but like I said I was afraid of what would happen once I told him what was up. Of course I knew I'd have to talk to him eventually... )

So what's been going on since i last posted...

I have today off, as I did yesterday, and was able to watch the latest Heroes episode. Even if Heroes hasn't been as good as it was in the first season (so people say) this episode seemed to be a huge exception to that... it was perfect. Same with the latest Dollhouse episode. The five episodes before it were just the warm-up for the good stuff. In other media news, I finally watched "Kung Fu Panda", and I have to say I seriously underestimated how good it was. Loved it. Same with "No Country For Old Men". I know it seems like I like everything I see, but that's not always the case... I just happen to be lucky enough to watch things that I like. Maybe it's partly that I don't over analyze what I watch and instead just allow myself to enjoy it. I also recently saw "Crash", which I'm not sure I liked as much as everything else, but at least it had nudity and car crashes.

Money is a little tight, but I think I will be able to pay rent and still be able to eat. One of my jobs cut a day from my schedule (which was very late being put up by the way), so I'm a little worried, but I was also told that it was temporary. I sure hope so... it would suck if I was working two jobs and still couldn't afford rent and food.

I have found that I enjoy doing laundry and cleaning my room (to an extent). Once it's all done, and I can look around and know that everything is clean and put away where it's supposed to go, I just feel better. I need to get a few things still for the room... for instance I have a mattress coming to me if I can arrange to pick it up. I appreciate the futon I was given, but I wake up with a stiff neck because of the way I have to sleep on it. I also need a computer desk and chair, plus a bookcase. I should really put some stuff up on the walls too.

Update 2:43 PM - So I just had to add here that "There Will Be Blood" is seriously a great movie. I regret not having seen it sooner. "I drink your milkshake" indeed!

Things are looking up:

  • Got my tax refund this morning. Just in time too... my account was about to go negative again.

  • Got all of my games back this afternoon, (thanks to moonwhispersBrian)... including a game that wasn't even mine! Now I won't be as bored when at home.

  • Opened a Netflix account, which also helps against the boredom.

  • Got BSG to look forward to tonight with angry_wolfCarl and grendelsmRudy.

  • My room is all vacuumed, which pleases me more than it ought to.

  • Actually talked to one of my housemates. Startled another one, but what can you do?

  • Only a few more days until I start at Calafia.

I have some time before I start work, so I figure I might as well post what's been happening lately:

I have been fairy lonely at my new place. Been watching a lot of DVDs and spending time at Tanforan, but that's already getting kind of old. I really need to get internet access and cable.

Still waiting to begin work at Calafia. I am looking forward to it, but I'm also nervous since it's a new job and I don't want to screw up my chance of staying employed there. I really need this job, and I was lucky to get it.

Finances are better now than the last few weeks. I actually ended up going negative in my bank account due to a combination of bad decisions and not keeping very good track of how much I spent. Now, however, I have two Books Inc. paychecks coming in February, plus whatever I get from Calafia, and my tax refund is on it's way to being directly deposited in the next few weeks (it took awhile to get them to accept it), so I can breathe a little... not to say I'm going to be spending wildly, but at least I'm not stressing so much anymore.

BSG just frakking rules. Last night's episode was so good! I'm only sad there's just 7 or so more episodes before it's over. At least there will be the t.v. movie The Plan and the new series Caprica to whet my appetite.

I have a few things I am really looking forward to in the next few months or so, such as the long awaited Jonathan Coulton concert DVD, Wondercon (Felicia Day will be there!), Watchmen, and Schaffer the Darklord & Stephen Lynch concerts in April and May respectively.

So that little trip to the emergency room is going to cost me $1131.00... this is exactly why I don't go to the doctor. I'm still a bit sick, and now I owe a fuckton of money as well. I don't know how much will be covered if I qualify for a financial assistance program I have to jump through hoops for, but I really can't afford this. Next time I'll just not go... what's the point? Speaking of owing money, I found out yesterday that I only owe another $176.12 to the county and then I'm done and they'll stop garnishing my wages. Finally!

Tomorrow is djinnethGwynne's surgery, and of course I'm worried for her. I really want everything to go smoothly and when all is said and done she'll be able to walk like she should. If I was a praying kind of man I would do so. I'm going to do what I can to help her in the coming months... it's the least I can do.

I've been watching Justice League on DVD thanks to nerveagntEric. Damn good cartoon. Still watching Oz and X-Files. Also watched the season premiers of Heroes (sorry for not waiting Gwynnie...) and Smallville yesterday online. I've been reading the fourth City of Ember book and I started reading the Dexter series.

I'm trying not to think about the 2 disc Iron Man exclusive deal that Target will be selling, because I have to wait for six more days and I am impatient as hell. Needless to say I will be getting up early that day... I'm also trying not to think about the Zune 120 that just came out. I have to wait until next year's tax return for that.

And finally, though I've already said what I needed to say in my last post about the subject, I am including an excerpt from a February 2008 post by a former employee who shall remain anonymous:

To the Creepy Company Owner: Are saturday nights at the ****** household really so boring you watch the live store security cameras to see if the employees are standing around and then phone the store to tell them to look busy? You’re like a second rate perv in some bad Sharon Stone movie from the mid 90’s but without the wit or charm of Alec Baldwin. I know running your own company is Serious Business but bookstores are not brothels and even tho’ you pay us like dime store whores, most customers don’t want us following them around like Hebronite Slaves. I hope you’re disemboweled by a mob of angry moms at an after school Sandra Boynton booksigning.

Couldn't have said it better myself...

Dear U.S. Treasury

I love you. Like, a lot. I was kinda expecting this, as are most of us, but not this soon. Thank you very much!

Have my babies? Kthxbai.

  • 34. {sigh}

  • I really miss the kitties. I also wish djinnethGwynne were home so we could cuddle.

  • It's nice to have a few days off in a row... it seems like I've been working nonstop for awhile - not that that's a bad thing since I could use the money.

  • Payday can't come soon enough.

  • I don't think boxes will be a problem when we are packing up.

  • Between BSG, Lost, Rome, and possibly Heroes and Preacher I think Gwynne and I will need to get cable at the new place.

  • I am so glad I bought the Gnarls Barkley CD set... I listen to it everyday.

Looking for a new place to live has brought up the fact that my credit isn't quite as shiny as it should be. At djinnethGwynne's urging I got two free credit reports, and found that I have a total of $400 in debt there in addition to the $600 from General Relief that I already knew about. I've decided that it's time to start paying that all back, and rebuild my credit, even if it means getting a credit card to do it. WaMu sent me an invitation to fill out an app for a card with 0% APR until Jan. 2008 so I went online and did so. I plan to pay as much of the debt I owe as I can with the card (if I get it), then make sure to pay the monthly charge on the card. It will be like killing two birds etc. I will not, however, be using it for personal pleasure (DVDs, CDs, books etc.) or Eksmas gifts. For that I will just use whatever money I get from working.
