I've been working at Calafia and Macy's, and that's going well. I've been managing to get a few hours extra here and there. Should be getting my first paychecks from both places at the end of this week. I am so very glad to be working again!

Looking forward to seeing "The Road" later today. If it's anywhere as good as "No Country For Old Men" I'll be happy. Last night I saw my first Buster Keaton movie, "The General". Even though it was made in the 1920's it looked like it was made yesterday which is no real surprise as Carl and I watched it on Blu-Ray. And he was right as usual... I loved it.

I don't have anything planned for Thanksgiving, which is fine. I don't really see the point of making a big deal of a holiday where the primary focus is eating until your stomach explodes and you fall into a deep food coma. Yay tryptophan! I know the real focus is family, but I don't have any living close enough. Wake me when it's Eksmas!

To celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day, I decided to share a few pirate related songs...

Enjoy, mateys!

Perhaps I'll watch the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy today (I am looking forward to the fourth film in the franchise)... even though there are many pirate movies to choose from.

oh say can you see...

Update 10:50 PM - Had a great 4th of July hanging out with Gwynne, Sarah K., and Will first at Gwynne's house where I had dinner, then at Irene and Jory's place where a bunch of us kids and kids at heart watched fireworks in numerous cities from a balcony with a hell of a view.

More to come later when I have time...

Have a happy 2009 everyone. Let's hope it's better than last year.

I will begin again...

Thank you djinnethGwynne for being the camerawoman!

It seems that in the last few days I haven't actually posted what I thought about "Iron Man"...

... well, having seen it three times in the last four days I would have to say that it is probably the best superhero movie ever. Better even than my own hero's movie, "Spider-Man". Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. have hit one out of the ballpark and into orbit. The right mixture of everything that goes into making a really good movie and then some. Did I mention I saw it thrice? Hell, I'd even see it again if we could get some people together. If you haven't seen it yet be sure to stay through the credits... it's worth it. Oh, and "The Forbidden Kingdom" was pretty good (saw it 22 April but forgot to mention it), "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" are both really hilarious, but not so much "Baby Mama". Yeah... don't bother with that last one.

In other news, I was waiting in line for my second viewing Friday night when I noticed that Cinemark is now charging 50 cents for refills on large popcorn when they used to do so for free. For fun, I decided to tease the manager on duty about it, and after chatting for a bit and telling him that I used to work for Century doing projection among other things he asked if I'd want to work for him! I said yes, but in the excitement of watching the movie I forgot to grab an app on the way out, so I ended up coming back the next night and (eventually) getting one. If everything works out I'll be working the same or less hours at the bookstore and getting the rest of the hours I need at the theatre to cover rent and my other expenses living in Redwood City, with the fringe benefits of my discount at the bookstore and advance screenings of those summer movies I am looking forward to.

Oh yeah... and happy Cinco De Mayo!

As of yesterday I am the dealer's room liaison for SiliCon 2008. Last year I had filled in at the last minute, but this time I'll be official. So I suppose I should attend the next meeting on 20 April, huh?

Blue Diamond Maui Onion and Garlic Almonds are fucking tasty!

For Easter brunch today djinnethGwynne and I first tried IHOP, then ended up eating at Baker's Square. I'm really glad we decided to switch... Baker's Square was much less crowded and the food was pretty darned good.

Last but not least, here's a song from Barenaked Ladies about Easter:

I am hoping that tomorrow, after work, djinnethGwynne will take us to Baker's Square so we can celebrate National Pie Day with a free slice of pie.

(note: this isn't to be confused with Pi Day which is on 14 March, though that is also a good day for pie)

One of mine and Gwynne's favorite songs by this artist... you can click the song's name to hear it - my gift to ya'll!

Chiron Beta Prime
by Jonathan Coulton

This year has been a little crazy for the Andersons
You may recall we had some trouble last year
The robot council had us banished to an asteroid
That hasn’t undermined our holiday cheer
And we know it’s almost Christmas from the marks we make on the wall
And that’s our favorite time of year

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,
where we’re working in a mine for our robot overlords
Did I say overlords? I meant protectors
Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime

On every corner there’s a giant metal Santa Claus who watches over us with glowing red eyes
They carry weapons and they know if you’ve been bad or good
Not everybody’s good but everyone tries
And the rocks outside the airlock exude ammonia-scented snow.
It’s like a Winter wonderland

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,
where we’re working in a mine for our robot overlords
Did I say overlords? I meant protectors
Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime

That’s all the family news that we’re allowed to talk about
We really hope you’ll come and visit us soon
I mean we’re literally begging you to visit us
And make it quick before they [MESSAGE REDACTED]
Now it’s time for Christmas dinner - I think the robots sent us a pie!
You know I love my soylent green

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,
where we’re working in a mine for our robot overlords
Did I say overlords? I meant protectors
Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime

Yes, it really is 4 AM as I post this. Why in the sphincter of hell am I up at this ungodly hour? Well, I have to be at Sharper Image at 5 AM, work until 11:30 AM, then start at noon and work at Books Inc. until 8:30 PM. Yay for taxi cabs... no one else in their right mind would take me to the mall at this time unless they wanted all those wonderful deals going on {rolls eyes}.

Oh... and then, tomorrow, it's 8 AM until noon and noon until 8:30 PM at both jobs respectively.

Only the promise of big paychecks and sheer madness on my part are my reasons for doing this. But hey... Thanksgiving dinner was very tasty, especially shared with a neighbor, and "Beowulf" was awesome!

So for our Halloween we watched back to back Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes and a South Park Halloween episode, ate tasty chicken sandwiches and tater tots, got a handful of trick or treaters, and watched "Shaun of the Dead" all snuggled up on the couch together. Not a bad night all in all. My impromptu Halloween costume consisted of my "Incredibles" t-shirt and some black sweats... not that we had enough visitors that it mattered. Oh well. Next year I think we're going out for the evening.

During the day I got some laundry done, fixed the vacuum cleaner, and vacuumed. Go me.

It's kinda freaking me out that djinnethGwynne is in the other room, still on the couch, groaning like a zombie in her sleep.

The new They Might Be Giants CD, The Else, is out in stores today. I have a copy on hold for me at B&N. Guess what I'll be listening to at work all day today?

The new Harry Potter movie comes out tomorrow. I plan on seeing it tomorrow night after work. Of course I'll be wearing my OotP hat I got for Eksmas a few years ago.

Already pre-ordered the new Harry Potter book... midnight madness here we come!

djinnethGwynne - She and I have been getting along very well. This is the best post-breakup time of my life ever. I am truly lucky to have Gwynneth in my life, and I hope she knows how much I treasure her friendship.

Movies - "Pirates 3" was totally awesome, a wonderful way to wrap up the trilogy without burning any bridge of the possiblity for another sequel. I made a friend in line, we geeked out about movies and T.V. until they let us into the theatre, and as it turns out she is married to someone Gwynne knew from before. "Bug" was quirky, generally I liked it, and seeing it for free was cool, but the woman who took her time checking her ringing cell phone and then answering it can DIAF. On HBO I saw "The Break-Up", which was better than I expected it to be (and not just because of Jennifer Aniston's naked ass). I recently picked up a DVD copy of the special edition of "Little Shop of Horrors" (going for around $150 on eBay), which had been recalled and is now very rare, for less than $6. So far I have watched the legendary alternate ending in glorious black and white and the Dentist song scene, but I plan to watch the whole movie soon... possibly as a double feature with another Rick Moranis film, "Spaceballs".

Work - Today is my 6th day of work in this work week. I get tomorrow and Friday off, which will be nice. Work itself has been pretty groovy. The customers are much less annoying than they used to be, but that feeling could change from day to day. The boss has liked some of the ideas I've come up with recently which is good. If anyone cares the shipment will be in on Thursday instead of Wednesday because of today's holiday.

That's all for now... stay tuned!

So thanks to some persistance on my part, we have a very tenuous internet connection despite not having service.

Arrr, I be a pirate...

Anyway, between The Big Move (TM) and Eksmas, I haven't had much time to post lately. As it is I'm doing so because Gwynnie is in the shower. She and I just got back from seeing "Night at the Museum" (sorry Carl... we couldn't wait - it was the only movie we wanted to see). It was pretty good... typical Ben Stiller stuff, but a bit better than usual, and the one two punch of Dick van Dyke and Mickey Rooney only helped things. Eksmas eve was pretty nice... dinner at Suraj with the gang, then presents at Sarah J.'s place. I got, among other things, a White & Nerdy hoodie! Thanks sweetie! The new place is nice, but of course everything is in boxes, and despite labeling most of them we can't find certain things. Cest la vie. We have the next two days off together and we plan to unpack as much as possible then.

Well, Gwynne is out of the shower, so I'll post more later.
