Still waiting to hear back from certain employers. Getting more and more nervous... it's almost the end of the month and I have virtually no money... at least not enough for rent. The anxiety is tearing me up inside. Every day my stomach is in knots. There are times when I just want to break down and give up completely, but I come back from it. It's been nice hanging out with djinnethGwynne and angry_wolfCarl recently... they've been very helpful in helping me not feel so lonely and depressed as I otherwise might feel. Thank you both! The only other thing of note is that yesterday my back seized up while i was walking and I felt a jolt of pain. It's better now, but damn that hurt.

I watched The Mighty Boosh, which the (fairly) infamous Old Gregg/Love Games episode is from. Pretty funny, but it seemed like it got better with each episode. Or at least more bizarre. Stargate Atlantis continues to be totally awesome, and with the 4th season comes many changes... looks to be like an interesting season. Movies I have recently seen include "District 9", which rocked, and "Inglourious Basterds" which I have to say is Quentin Tarantino's best film in many ways. I loved "Pulp Fiction" and the rest, but this one really felt epic and just plain brilliant. I think it could win an Oscar or three. Go see it! As for the rest of the year, I'm looking forward to "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus", "Avatar", "Zombieland", and "9". Oh, and Carl introduced me to the comedy of the funny and fluffy Gabriel Iglesias. A couple of music videos I'd like to share... first, the new song by "Weird Al" Yankovic called Ringtone. Second is Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? by the cast of The Guild, which includes the lovely Felicia Day (whom I met at Wondercon earlier this year). If you're a World of Warcraft player (and I know there are a few of you out there) you should check this out.

Blue Sunny Day is a new song from Jonathan Coulton. This one is described by the artist thusly:

Unbelievably, there is a new song. As I’ve mentioned the couple of times I played this live, I tried very hard to NOT make this about a sad vampire, but of course it is. It started out with the idea that I should just, for once, write a song that was kind of bouncy and happy. Though once I had decided to use the phrase “blue sunny day,” it was hard not to notice that the word “blue” can have another meaning. From there it’s only a quick jump to vampire suicide. I don’t know what happened to him exactly, perhaps he suffers from seasonal affective disorder? Or maybe he’s just sick of working nights.

Continuing with the Jonathan Coulton/PAX goodness, here he is with Felicia Day (Penny from Dr. Horrible) singing my favorite song from a video game I've never played - Still Alive:

Is it just me or was she dressed like Juno?

This is a video taken at PAX '08 (which I wish I could have been at) of MC Frontalot and Jonathan Coulton performing a single from Front's new album Final Boss (which drops 4 November 2008).

Jonathan Coulton performing the end credits song Still Alive from the game Portal using Rock Band at the Great American Music Hall the other night. I may have never played either game, but I really like the song.

One of mine and Gwynne's favorite songs by this artist... you can click the song's name to hear it - my gift to ya'll!

Chiron Beta Prime
by Jonathan Coulton

This year has been a little crazy for the Andersons
You may recall we had some trouble last year
The robot council had us banished to an asteroid
That hasn’t undermined our holiday cheer
And we know it’s almost Christmas from the marks we make on the wall
And that’s our favorite time of year

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,
where we’re working in a mine for our robot overlords
Did I say overlords? I meant protectors
Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime

On every corner there’s a giant metal Santa Claus who watches over us with glowing red eyes
They carry weapons and they know if you’ve been bad or good
Not everybody’s good but everyone tries
And the rocks outside the airlock exude ammonia-scented snow.
It’s like a Winter wonderland

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,
where we’re working in a mine for our robot overlords
Did I say overlords? I meant protectors
Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime

That’s all the family news that we’re allowed to talk about
We really hope you’ll come and visit us soon
I mean we’re literally begging you to visit us
And make it quick before they [MESSAGE REDACTED]
Now it’s time for Christmas dinner - I think the robots sent us a pie!
You know I love my soylent green

Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime,
where we’re working in a mine for our robot overlords
Did I say overlords? I meant protectors
Merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime

I had a wonderful weekend with djinnethGwynne. Sleeping way in, lazing around, generally enjoying each other's company. We didn't get anything done, but it was nice to relax with my sweetie. This week we'll be cleaning the house for the festivities on Sunday.

We went to figbashDarcy's party on Saturday night, which was fun. They guy who was supposed to run dealer's room (see this post) was there, and it was his birthday. Almost got tazed (well, not really tazed I guess) but the battery had died just before I got my chance. The cake was quite tasty, Gwynne's cookies were a hit, and we had to leave all too soon.

Yesterday I got a chance to talk to my sister Lelia. She called me, and the first thing she asked was regarding whether or not Beastie Boys sang My Posse's On Broadway. I assured her it was Sir Mix-A-Lot. Considering the lyric that's being used for my LJ title I guess I can understand her confusion. Anyway, she said she was doing well and didn't give me any grief about being unemployed again, which was cool. I really want to go see her and my other sister Sarah soon.

Tonight is Heroes and possibly dinner at Chili's (or maybe sloppy Joes). Looking forward to another nice night with Gwynnie.

Oh yeah... made a new icon today - a pirate penguin. Arrr!

  • I got to hang out with djinnethGwynne and angry_wolfCarl, the birthday boy, earlier this week. Dinner at Chevy's in the city was followed by "Day Watch", which I think was even better that "Night Watch". After the ending I don't know how they'll have a third part in the rumored trilogy, but I'll be sure to see it when it is released. Also, I got my Eksmas present ("Clerks X") from Carl, but as I already owned it I exchanged it for the "Mallrats" 10th anniversary DVD (which I watched with Gwynnie last night) and the animated Transformers movie 20th anniversary soundtrack. Woot! Thanks Carl!

  • I'd like to wish Geo a very happy birthday... on the correct day this time.

  • Work is still going fairly well. It looks like I get to miss inventory this time around.

  • I'm not sure what to think of the Transformers theme by Mute Math... maybe it will grow on me. I do know that, after reading the adaptation of the movie, it looks like when the Autobots and Decpticons hit the screen on 2 July at 8 PM it's gonna be fucking awesome.

  • I for one couldn't care less if Paris Hilton is in jail, at home, or on Mars. Seriously... media? Can we stop talking about this airhead celebrity now? Please?

Update 8 June 2007 / 12:45 PM - So it turns out that the version of the Transformers theme listed above is not by Mute Math after all. It may be Linkin Park, but Mute Math's version can be found on their MySpace page here.

And now, the conclusion of Secrets From The Future lyrics posting week. The last two songs that follow are actually new takes on older songs. The first one is a good reason why you should never allow Front into your hospital room:

Gonna Be Your Man )

The final song was originally on Songfight, and was about Front's (strange romantic) relationship with the site or something. The new version is sung towards a human being (I think):

Romantic Cheapskate v.2.0  )

And as a bonus here's the album cover art: )

... and we're done. I can't wait until tomorrow night, about this time. I shall be watching MC Frontalot, MC Lars, and Optimus Rhyme in concert and Cafe Du Nord in S.F. Nerd ho!

Continuing our MC Frontalot Secrets From The Future lyrics tour we have first a song about the NSFW webcomic Achewood, specifically the latest death of Todd T. Squirrel, whom you can read about under minor characters here:

Livin' At The Corner Of Dude & Catastrophe )

Listen to the demo version of that song here.

This next song has to do with Asperger syndrome. That's all you need to know:

You Got Asperger’s )

Ya know, I have more than one of those symptoms...

So djinnethGwynne and I ended up getting to the Parkway with more than enough time to spare. We waited in line outside for awhile, and before it began to rain too hard they let us inside. It was so neat... they had comfy chairs and couches all around with little tables in front of most of them, and we were able to order non-theatre traditional type foodstuffs such as Buffalo wings and quesadillas. They were also serving beer and other alcoholic drinks, but our cash on hand was limited so we shared a soda. We watched OMWF and sang along during the appropriate parts. When Emma Caulfield was singing her part regarding bunnies some people started throwing stuffed rabbits around... one of which I got and promptly named Anya. There was a slight intermission between shows, then the episode Beer Bad started (which I'd never seen) and we watched that, but left before Band Candy was shown. All in all I had a shiny time and look forward to doing this again.

Oh yeah... I also found out that Can't Stop The Serenity will be happening on 23 June 2007. Tell your friends (as long as they aren't purplebellies)!
